Fascias & Soffits

Rotted Fascia and Damaged Soffit, Repaired at the Source

Fascia boards sit behind the eavestroughs, and when a trough leaks or overflows the wood behind it stays wet. Through Toronto winters of freeze-thaw, that board softens, splits and starts to pull away, taking the eavestrough with it. The soffit underneath can sag, crack or come loose, leaving openings that squirrels, raccoons and birds are quick to use. Paint peeling along the edge, dark staining and drooping troughs are the early signs.

Toronto Roofing & Masonry removes the damaged material rather than covering it, replaces rotted fascia with new boards and fits new soffit where the old panels have failed. We explain the aluminum and vinyl options that suit your home, including vented soffit to keep air moving through the attic. Where the eavestroughs are the reason the fascia rotted, we tell you, so the same problem does not return behind the new board.

Why choose us

What You Get from Our Fascia and Soffit Work

Rot Removed, Not Wrapped Over

Covering a soft board hides the problem while it keeps rotting, so we replace damaged wood before any new covering goes on.

The Cause of the Rot Identified

We check whether a leaking or overflowing eavestrough caused the damage, so you can deal with the source as well as the board.

Airflow Planned into the Soffit

We look at how air reaches your attic and explain where vented soffit will help reduce condensation and ice dams.

Openings Closed for Wildlife

Damaged soffit is a common way for animals to get into a roof, and closing the gaps along the edge is part of the job.

What Affects the Price of Fascia and Soffit Work

Your estimate reflects the length and condition of the roof edge, and the main factors are:

  • The length of fascia and soffit being replaced.
  • How much of the wood behind the covering has rotted.
  • The choice of aluminum or vinyl, and the colour.
  • The height of the roof edge and access around your home.
  • Whether eavestroughs need to come down and go back up.

How Fascias and Soffits Are Replaced

The main stages of the job, from the first look to the final check.

  1. Edge Inspection

We check the fascia for soft or split wood, the soffit for damage and gaps, and the eavestroughs for the leaks that often cause the rot.

  2. Estimate and Material Options

We explain the repair, discuss aluminum and vinyl options and colours, and give you an estimate before any work starts.

  3. Removal and Replacement

Troughs are taken down where needed, rotted boards and failed soffit come out, and new fascia, soffit and covering are fitted.

  4. Refitting and Final Check

Eavestroughs go back up, gaps are sealed, and we review the completed work with you and confirm everything has been done as agreed.

FAQs

Fascia and Soffit Questions Answered

What causes fascia boards to rot?

Most fascia rot comes from water. A leaking seam, a blocked trough or an ice dam keeps the board wet, and repeated freezing and thawing breaks down the wood and the paint protecting it.

Can new covering be put over old fascia?

Only if the wood underneath is sound. Covering a rotted board traps moisture and lets the decay continue out of sight, so damaged boards should be replaced first.

What is vented soffit?

Vented soffit has small perforations that let outside air into the attic at the eaves. Together with vents higher on the roof, it keeps air moving through the attic, which helps control heat and moisture.

Is aluminum or vinyl better for soffit and fascia?

Both are common choices on Toronto homes. Aluminum is rigid and holds its shape, while vinyl resists dents and comes in a wide range of colours. We explain which suits your home.

How do I know if animals are getting in through my soffit?

Signs include scratching or movement in the attic, droppings, chewed or bent soffit panels and gaps where the soffit has pulled away from the fascia or wall.
