Siding

Exterior Siding That Protects the Walls of Your Home

Siding is the outer skin of your walls, and its main job is to keep rain and melting snow out of the structure behind it. Cracked panels, loose sections and gaps around windows and doors let water in, where it can lead to rot, mould and drafts. Toronto Roofing & Masonry installs new siding, replaces worn siding and repairs damaged sections on houses across the city.

Vinyl, aluminum and fibre cement are common siding choices, and each looks and performs differently. We explain the options that suit your home, its age and the look you want. Much of the work that matters is hidden: the weather barrier behind the siding, the flashing above windows and doors, and the trim that closes every edge. Those details are what keep the wall dry through Toronto winters.

Why choose us

Why Our Approach to Siding Keeps Walls Dry

Water Management Comes First

We pay as much attention to the barrier, flashing and trim behind the siding as to the panels you see, because that is where most wall leaks begin.

Materials Explained for Your House

We set out how vinyl, aluminum and fibre cement compare in appearance and upkeep, so you can choose the siding that suits your home.

Hidden Damage Dealt With

If old siding is hiding rot or wet sheathing, we show you what we find and discuss the repair before any new siding goes up.

Walls and Roof Edge Under One Contractor

Because we also work on roofs and the roof edge, the junction between your siding, soffit and roof can be detailed as one job.

FAQs

Answers to Common Siding Questions

Which siding material is best for a Toronto house?

There is no single best choice. Vinyl is light and needs little upkeep, aluminum does not rot, and fibre cement has a solid feel and can be painted. The right choice depends on your house, the look you want and how much maintenance you are comfortable with.

Can damaged siding be repaired, or does it all need replacing?

Damaged panels or sections can often be replaced on their own. Full replacement makes more sense when the siding is brittle or faded across the whole house, or when water has got behind it in several places.

Why does water get behind siding?

Most often it enters at openings and edges: around windows and doors, at corners and where the siding meets the roof. Missing flashing, failed caulking or cracked panels let water reach the wall behind.

Do I need to replace the trim when I replace my siding?

It usually makes sense to. The trim around windows, doors and corners closes the edges of the siding, and fitting new trim with the new siding lets those edges be detailed to shed water.

Can new siding go over my existing siding?

It is sometimes possible, but it hides the condition of the wall underneath. Removing the old siding lets the sheathing and weather barrier be checked, which is often the better approach on an older house.
