New Roofs

Full Roof Replacement for Toronto Homes

A new roof makes sense when repairs have stopped holding. If the shingles are curling across whole slopes, leaks keep returning in different places or the roof deck has gone soft in patches, patching tends to cost more over time than replacing. Toronto Roofing & Masonry looks at the whole roof before recommending anything, so you know if a repair will still serve you or if replacement is the better use of your money.

A replacement with us means removing the old roofing down to the deck, checking every board and replacing any that are rotted or delaminated, then building up a new roof system: underlayment, ice and water protection at the eaves and valleys, flashing, ventilation and the finished surface. We explain the materials that suit your house, its pitch and the way Toronto winters treat it, and you receive an estimate before any work starts.

What's included

What a New Roof from Us Includes

What the work covers, explained to you before anything starts.

  • Removal of the existing roofing layers down to the deck, with the old material taken away from your property.
  • A board-by-board check of the roof deck, with rotted or damaged sections replaced before anything new goes on.
  • New underlayment across the roof, plus ice and water protection along the eaves and in the valleys.
  • New flashing at chimneys, walls, vents and valleys so water is directed off the roof at every joint.
  • Attic ventilation reviewed and improved where needed, to reduce heat build-up, condensation and the conditions behind ice dams.
  • The finished roof surface in the material chosen for your home, with ridges, edges and penetrations fully sealed.

Why choose us

Why Homeowners Choose Us for a New Roof

Replacement Only When It Is Needed

We tell you when a repair will still do the job, so a full replacement is recommended only when the condition of the roof calls for it.

The Deck Checked, Not Covered Over

Stripping to the deck lets us find soft or rotted boards and replace them, so your new roof sits on a sound base.

Materials Matched to Your House

We explain the roofing options that suit the pitch, style and age of your home, and how each one copes with heavy snow and freeze-thaw.

A Clear Estimate Before Tear-Off

Your estimate sets out the scope of the replacement ahead of the job, including how any deck repairs will be handled if they turn out to be needed.

What Shapes the Cost of a New Roof

Every replacement is priced for the house in front of us, and these are the main factors in your estimate:

  • The size and pitch of the roof, and how many slopes, valleys and dormers it has.
  • How many layers of old roofing need to come off.
  • The condition of the deck once it is exposed.
  • The roofing material you choose.
  • The number of chimneys, vents and wall junctions that need new flashing.

How a Roof Replacement Is Carried Out

The main stages of the job, from the first look to the final check.

  1. Roof Assessment

We examine the roof covering, flashings, ventilation and signs of deck damage, then explain whether replacement is the right call and why.

  2. Estimate and Material Choice

We discuss the material, colour and ventilation details for your new roof and agree the scope with you before the job is booked.

  3. Tear-Off and Deck Repairs

The old roofing is stripped, the deck is checked board by board, and damaged sections are replaced before the new layers go down.

  4. New Roof and Final Review

Underlayment, flashing, ventilation and the finished surface are installed, the site is cleared, and we review the completed work with you and confirm everything has been done as agreed.

FAQs

New Roof Questions from Toronto Homeowners

How do I know if my roof needs replacing rather than repairing?

Common signs are shingles curling or losing granules across large areas, leaks appearing in more than one place, sagging between rafters and repairs that do not last. A single damaged area can usually be repaired. When the problems are spread over the roof, replacement is often the better value.

Can new shingles go over my old roof?

Laying a new roof over an old one hides the deck, so soft or rotted boards stay in place under the new material, and it adds weight to the structure. Stripping to the deck lets any damage be found and repaired, which is why we recommend a full tear-off.

What is ice and water protection?

It is a self-adhering membrane laid under the roofing at the eaves, in valleys and around penetrations. When ice dams back water up under the shingles in a Toronto winter, this layer helps stop that water reaching the deck and the rooms below.

Why does attic ventilation matter on a new roof?

A well-ventilated attic stays closer to the outdoor temperature. That reduces the snowmelt that refreezes at the eaves as ice dams, limits condensation and mould in the attic, and lowers the summer heat that ages roofing materials faster.

What material should I choose for my new roof?

It depends on the pitch of your roof, the style and age of the house and how much weight the structure can carry. Asphalt shingles suit most pitched roofs, low-slope sections need a membrane, and some older homes suit slate or tile. We explain the options that suit your home.
