Roof Leak and Damage Repairs for Toronto Homes

A roof rarely fails all at once. More often a shingle lifts in a summer storm, a flashing seal cracks after a few hard winters or an ice dam pushes meltwater back under the eaves. Left alone, a small entry point can soak insulation, stain ceilings and rot the roof deck. Toronto Roofing & Masonry repairs that damage on shingle, flat, slate and tile roofs, so the rest of the roof can keep doing its job.

Every repair starts with finding where the water is actually entering, which is often some distance from the stain inside. We check the flashings at chimneys, walls and vents, the condition of the shingles or membrane around the problem and the deck underneath where it is exposed. You then receive an estimate for the repair, and if we find the roof is past repairing, we tell you so plainly.

Why choose us

How We Handle Roof Repairs in Toronto

Leaks Traced to the Source

We follow the water back to where it enters, so the repair is made at the cause and you are not paying to patch the wrong place.

Repairs Matched to Your Roof

Shingles, slate, tile and flat membranes each need their own repair method, and we use the one that suits the covering already on your roof.

A Clear Repair or Replace Call

If the damage points to a roof at the end of its life, we explain that before you spend money on a repair that will not hold.

Flashing Detailed for Freeze-Thaw

Many leaks begin at flashings, so we seal and fix them to cope with snow, ice and the expansion and contraction of Toronto winters.

What Affects the Cost of a Roof Repair

Repair costs vary from one roof to the next, and your estimate reflects these factors:

  • The size of the damaged area and how far water has spread
  • The roof covering, whether shingle, flat membrane, slate or tile
  • Whether flashing at a chimney, wall or valley needs renewing
  • Any rotted roof deck that has to be replaced
  • The height, pitch and access to the area being repaired

We review the completed work with you and confirm everything has been done as agreed.

FAQs

Roof Repair Questions Answered

Why does my roof leak only when snow is melting?

This usually points to an ice dam. Snow melts on the warmer upper roof, refreezes at the colder eaves and backs water up under the shingles, where it can drip into the walls or ceiling. Repairing the damaged area, adding ice and water protection at the eaves and improving attic ventilation all help.

Can a few missing shingles be replaced without redoing the roof?

Yes, in most cases. Individual shingles can be replaced and sealed down, provided the shingles around them are still flexible and in fair condition. If they are brittle or curling across the roof, a repair can damage the neighbouring shingles and a wider repair or replacement may be the better choice.

What is roof flashing and why does it fail?

Flashing is the metal or membrane that seals the joints where the roof meets a chimney, wall, vent or valley. Sealants dry out and crack over time, and movement from freeze-thaw cycles can loosen the metal, which lets water run behind it. Resealing or replacing the flashing usually stops the leak.

Should a small roof leak be repaired soon?

Yes. Even a slow drip can soak insulation, encourage mould and rot the roof deck and framing, which turns a small repair into a larger one. In the meantime, a container under the drip and moving belongings out of the way limit the damage inside.

Do you repair flat, slate and tile roofs as well as shingles?

Yes. We repair asphalt shingle, flat and low-slope membrane, natural slate and clay or concrete tile roofs. Each covering is repaired with methods and materials that suit it, so the repair matches the way the rest of the roof was built.
